OR Senate Bill 1503 Passed: Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to be reimbursed the same a
Good news for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants practicing in the State of Oregon. Effective January 1, 2017, Oregon NPs and PAs must be reimbursed by insurers at the same rate for the same service as a licensed physician. The 2016 passage of Oregon Senate Bill 1503 removed the scheduled December 31, 2017 sunset of House Bill 2902, which requires insurers to reimburse licensed physician assistants and certified nurse practitioners at the same rate as licensed physicians when they provide primary care or mental health services.
Senate Bill 1503 is codified in ORS 743A.036, otherwise known as the NP and PA Payment Parity Law. The bill also requires the Oregon Health Policy Board and the Department of Consumer and Business Services to collect data from insurers and report on the implementation of House Bill 2902 no later than January 31, 2017.
